Faith & Confronting Modern Slavery – UK

June 21, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Modern slavery prospers in the UK. Perhaps in your workplace, in your organisation’s supply chains? How can we begin to make a difference with our practices? Or be a mouthpiece for truth and justice?

These are some of the questions we’ll be seeking to answer during our Faith and Confronting Modern Slavery event.

As Christians, we are called to be salt and light. As disciples of Christ wherever we are, we are called to be mouthpieces for truth and justice. As those confronted by the stark reality of exploitative work practices, we are called to make a difference.

Join us on Wednesday 21st June at 6.30pm as we explore the issue of modern slavery.

We will hear Quintin and Angela Lake share the story of their organisation 50eight. It was founded on the principles of Isaiah 58 after they had witnessed firsthand the shocking conditions in some of today’s labour camps. It is an example of two people asking the simple question “How can we use our skills to make a difference?” and letting God lead them as they put biblical principles into practice.

Alongside Christian Aid’s Salt Business Leaders Network, we will explore the issue of modern slavery and highlight the ways we can engage. We’ll hear from business leaders in the UK and Nigeria about how they are implementing supply chain management to combat modern slavery. We all play a part in modern global supply chains, so wherever you fit – in business, as a concerned consumer, or as someone working in the charitable sector – this event is for you.
